Headline Politics - News Conference – Justin Trudeau and Indigenous Leaders
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and indigenous leaders Perry Bellegarde (national chief of the Assembly of First Nations), Clément Chartier (president of the Métis Nation) and Natan Obed (president of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami) speak with reporters on Parliament Hill on the one-year anniversary of the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The prime minister announces several new measures to improve relations with indigenous communities, including the establishment of yearly bilateral forums and the creation of a national council on reconciliation. During questions with reporters, Prime Minister Trudeau declares his support for the marijuana task force’s recommendation that the legal age for marijuana use be 18.
