Wai Young
Conservative MP Wai Young lost by only 20 votes when she ran the first time in her riding of Vancouver South in 2008, but three years later in 2011 took the riding by almost 4,000 votes. Born in China, Ms. Wai came to Canada when her family emigrated to Vancouver in 1965 when she only 4 years old. The mother of twins, Ms. Wai was also a foster parent for seven children over 18 years. A UBC graduate in Sociology, Ms. Wai worked in various capacities including working as a child care counsellor in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and a senior policy advisor for the Department of Immigration. Ms. Wai loves to ski, skate and cook whenever she has any free time. She spoke to Catherine Clark about her life Beyond Politics.
