Vote 2015 – Toronto Centre
CPAC’s Martin Stringer visits the riding of Toronto Centre, Ontario, to examine key election issues and to meet candidates vying to become MP for the area in the October 19, 2015, federal election. The incumbent, Liberal Chrystia Freeland, is vacating the riding to run in the new, neighbouring, riding of University-Rosedale. In her place, the Liberals have nominated a high-profile businessman Bill Morneau. He is a “star” candidate and touted as a possible Liberal finance minister. He will face a tough challenge from the NDP’s Linda McQuaig, who lost a bitter fight to Freeland in the 2013 by-election. McQuaig is a long-time political activist, journalist and author. The Conservative candidate is Julian Di Battista. He is a senior analyst with a major bank and a member of the gay community, something that could be factor in a riding which is home to the country’s largest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. Computer programmer and environmentalist Colin Biggin is running for the Green Party.
