Vote 2015 – Surrey–Newton
CPAC's David Kincaid reports from Surrey-Newton, a new riding squeezed into the north end of the sprawling suburban city of Surrey, east of Vancouver. This is the largest Sikh riding in Canada, with 45 percent of voters here speaking Punjabi, including all four candidates. Violent drug and gang crime is the biggest issue here, followed by housing costs and immigration. This election is a rematch between NDP MP Jinny Sims and former Liberal MP Sukh Dhaliwal, whom Sims defeated by 908 votes in 2011 in the former Newton--North Delta riding. The Conservatives are running Harpreet Singh, a local Punjabi TV host who immigrated to Canada in 2002. Pamela Sangha, a recent UVic political science graduate is running for the Greens.
