2009 Royal Visit to Canada Retrospective
Highlights from the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall’s royal tour of Canada from November 2 to November 12, 2009. On November 2, Prince Charles and the Duchess arrive in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, and attend a welcome ceremony at the Mile One Centre, where the Prince delivers an address. On November 3, they visit the Cupid’s Cove Plantation Archeological Site, and the Prince speaks at the Cupids United Church. On November 5, in Hamilton, Ontario, the couple tours Dundurn Castle before Prince Charles opens the 87th Royal Agricultural Fair on November 6 in Toronto. On November 7, in Vancouver, British Columbia, they attend an Indigenous performance at the Paralympic Village. On November 10, in Ottawa, Ontario, the Prince meets Governor General Michaëlle Jean, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Leader of the Opposition Michael Ignatieff. The following day, on November 11, the Prince and Duchess participate in a Remembrance Day service at the National War Memorial before attending a reception organized by the Governor General. At the reception, the Prince delivers remarks. On the last day of the royal visit, on November 12, they meet with Canadians at Rideau Hall and go to a farewell ceremony.
