Over nine days in June and July, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visit cities in Nova Scotia, Winnipeg, and Ontario. This is the Queen’s 22nd royal visit since her ascension to the throne in 1952.
The Queen and Prince Philip are welcomed with speeches by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Canadian Governor General Michaëlle Jean, and Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter. The Queen makes brief remarks. The welcoming ceremony also includes musical performances and a Mi’kmaq cultural event.
