75th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid – Ceremony in Ottawa – August 22, 2017
A ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid is held at the National War Memorial, in Ottawa. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Veterans Affairs Minister Kent Hehr, and Chief of the Defence Staff Jonathan Vance are among the attendees. Lieutenant-Colonel Carl Gauthier is the master of ceremonies. Nearly five thousand Canadian soldiers took part in the unsuccessful attack on the German-occupied town of Dieppe, France, on the morning of August 19, 1942. More than 900 Canadians died.
