Funeral for Paul Gérin-Lajoie
A state funeral is held for former Quebec cabinet minister Paul Gérin-Lajoie, who died on June 25 at the age of 98. Archbishop Christian Lépine presides over the service at Montreal's Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde. In the 1960s, while serving as education minister in the government of Premier Jean Lesage, Gérin-Lajoie introduced major reforms to the Quebec's education system. He later went on to become the founding president of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
