News Conference – Marc Garneau
Transportation Minister Marc Garneau announces the phase-out schedule of the DOT-111 rail tank cars at a press conference in Montreal, Que., on July 25, 2016. The tank cars will be removed from Canadian railways by November 1, 2016, six months ahead of schedule. The DOT-111 cars were deemed unsafe after a train pulling them derailed and exploded in Lac Mégantic, Que., killing 47 people in 2013. Minister Garneau is joined by Pauline Quinlan (co-chair of the FCM National Municipal Rail Safety Working Group) and Anie Samson (mayor of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension) for the press conference. Following the announcement, Garneau and Quinlan respond to questions from reporters. (no interpretation)
