Headline Politics - Cabinet Shuffle – Ceremony at Rideau Hall


On January 10, 2017, Governor General David Johnston presides over the swearing-in of new federal cabinet ministers in a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. This is the first significant shuffle of cabinet roles since Justin Trudeau’s government took office in November 2015.

The new appointees to cabinet are François-Philippe Champagne (Minister of International Trade), Karina Gould (Minister of Democratic Institutions), and Ahmed Hussen (Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship). Assuming new roles within cabinet are Chrystia Freeland (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Maryam Monsef (Minister of Status of Women), and Patricia Hajdu (Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour).
