Brenda Lucki To Become First Woman to Lead the RCMP
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau names Brenda Lucki as the new commissioner of the RCMP, making her the first woman to take on that role permanently. The appointment is effective April 16, 2018. Lucki joined the RCMP in 1986 and has been the commanding officer of the RCMP depot division in Saskatchewan since October 2016. She will take over a national police force still dealing with allegations of harassment and discrimination in the workplace. Commissioner Bob Paulson retired in June 2017. Following the announcement at the RCMP training academy in Regina, the prime minister takes questions from reporters on a number of topics including the dispute between the B.C. and Alberta governments and the Colten Boushie shooting.
