Government Grants Extension for MMIWG Inquiry
At a news conference in Ottawa, Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett announces that the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls will be extended for six months. Commissioners had requested a two-year extension. The deadline for the final report is now April 30, 2019. The commission has until the end of June 2019 to wind down its operations. The minister also presents the federal government’s response to the inquiry's interim report, which was released in November 2017. Status of Women Minister Maryam Monsef and Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott also speaks with reporters. (June 5, 2018)
