Justin Trudeau Announces Ocean Protection Agreement with First Nations
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Prince Rupert, B.C. to announce an agreement between the federal government and 14 Central and North Coast First Nations to protect the oceans. Joining the prime minister for the announcement, which was made on National Indigenous Peoples Day, are Matthew Hill (Gitxaala Nation), Patrick Kelly (board chair of the Coastal First Nations), and Marilyn Slett (chief councillor of the Heiltsuk Tribal Council). Trudeau also speaks with reporters, where he faces questions about the Trans Mountain pipeline and about a bill to ban oil tankers along British Columbia’s north coast.
