Conservatives Want Veterans' Benefits Revoked for Convicted Murderer
On Parliament Hill, Conservative MPs Phil McColeman (the party’s veterans affairs critic) and Richard Martel (the party’s deputy defence critic) discuss their opposition day motion, which calls for the revocation of veterans benefits awarded to Christopher Garnier, who is not a veteran but whose father served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Garnier is serving a life sentence after being convicted of second-degree murder in the killing of Nova Scotia police officer Catherine Campbell. Veterans Affairs Canada is covering his treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which Garnier says he is suffering from as a result of the killing.
