Unifor President Jerry Dias Comments After Meeting with PM Trudeau on GM Closure

Unifor national president Jerry Dias speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill following his meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about GM’s plan to shut down its Oshawa car assembly plant at the end of 2019. Unifor is vowing to fight back against the shutdown and is calling on the car manufacturer to live up to commitments made during its 2016 contract negotiations with workers. The union represents roughly 2,500 autoworkers at the Oshawa plant. The closure is part of GM’s global restructuring plan to focus on lower-emission and autonomous vehicles.
