Komagatu Maru Apology
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologizes on behalf of the federal government for the 1914 Komagata Maru incident. The Komagata Maru was a steamship carrying 376 South Asian migrants, mostly Sikhs, that was denied entry into Canada and forced to return to India, where some of the passengers were ultimately killed or jailed by British soldiers. Opposition Leader Rona Ambrose, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair, Bloc Québécois interim leader Rhéal Fortin, and Green Leader Elizabeth May also participate in the official apology for the Komagata Maru incident.
