Emergency Debate on GM Oshawa Plant Closure
Members of Parliament hold an emergency debate following General Motors’ announcement that it will shut down its car assembly plant in Oshawa, Ont., in 2019. The debate comes following requests by Erin O’Toole (the Conservative MP for Durham, Ont.), Scott Duvall (the NDP MP for Hamilton Mountain, Ont.), and Bryan May (the Liberal MP for Cambridge, Ont.). More than 2,500 workers at the Oshawa plant will be affected by the closure announcement, which is part of GM’s global restructuring plan to focus on lower-emission vehicles. (November 26, 2018)
