Scott Brison Makes Farewell Address in the House
Longtime Nova Scotia MP and former cabinet minister Scott Brison makes a farewell speech in the House of Commons as he prepares to leave political life. In his remarks he announces that he will step down on February 10, 2019, nearly 22 years after he was first elected. Brison has represented the riding of Kings-Hants since 1997, when he was first elected as a Progressive Conservative MP. He crossed the floor to join the Liberal party in 2003 after the PCs merged with the Canadian Alliance. He announced in December 2018 that he would be not be seeking re-election in 2019 and was resigning his cabinet post. He was Canada's first openly gay cabinet minister. Brison's farewell address is followed by tributes from his colleagues: Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, Conservative deputy leader Lisa Raitt, NDP MP Randall Garrison, Bloc Québécois MP Mario Beaulieu and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May.
