Mark Warawa’s Farewell Speech – May 7, 2019
Longtime British Columbia MP Mark Warawa gave a farewell speech in the House of Commons on May 7, 2019, as he prepared to leave political life. The Conservative MP for Langley-Aldergrove, who was first elected in 2004, announced in January that he did not plan to seek re-election. He revealed in April that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Mr. Warawa’s farewell speech, which fell on his 69th birthday, was followed by tributes from his colleagues Ed Fast (Conservative), John McKay (Liberal) and Nathan Cullen (NDP), as well as House of Commons Speaker Geoff Regan. Mark Warawa died on June 20, 2019.
