Prime Minister Tables New NAFTA Implementation Bill – May 29, 2019
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau makes a statement in the House of Commons after tabling legislation (C-100) to implement the new North American trade agreement. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh respond to the introduction of the bill. Canada, the United States and Mexico signed the trade agreement on November 30, 2018, after more than a year of negotiations. The ratification process cleared a key hurdle when the three countries reached an agreement on May 17, 2019, for the U.S. to lift tariffs on Canadian and Mexican steel and aluminum.
