In Committee from the Senate of Canada
National Security and Defence – October 3, 2011
Retired Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie presented his controversial transformation report that calls for major cost-cutting in the Canadian Forces. Leslie's report contains 43 recommendations and outlines how to save $1 billion annually. The former Chief of the Land Staff spent a year leading a transformation team at the request of Defence Minister Peter MacKay. Senators turned their focus in the second part of the meeting to the state and future of the Canadian Army Reserve, a topic which they have been studying over the last year. Former Liberal Defence Minister David Pratt discussed his report on the role of the reserves, which was published by the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute in March 2011. Pratt is currently the senior vice-president for public affairs at GCI Canada.
