Committee members begin a study of retail price discrepancies between goods sold in Canada and the United States.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, who requested a study after claiming Canadians are justified in being upset at the price gap, appears briefly before the committee. Later, the committee hears testimony from Department of Finance officials Jim Haley, Dean Beyea, Rainer Nowak, Patrick Halley, Geoff Trueman, and Elisha Ram. The witnesses are questioned by a number of senators, including Joseph Day (the chair of the committee), Art Eggleton (Liberal), Elizabeth Marshall (Conservative), Richard Neufeld (Conservative), and Doug Finley (Conservative).
