He was questioned by senators about the estimated 11 per cent price gap, the value of the Canadian dollar, and inflation expectations. The committee is conducting this special study on price discrepancies at the request of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. Gerald McDonald and Kash Ram, two senior officials from Transport Canada, then discussed pricing of motor vehicles as well as vehicle standards and border crossing at various phases of production and sale.
