The committee continued its special study of potential reasons for Canada-U.S. price discrepancies, given the value of the Canadian dollar. Ted Mallett, the vice-president and chief economist of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business who appeared via videoconference from Toronto, told senators that the issue was one that comes up frequently amongs the federation's members, especially in border communties. He touched on factors affecting pricing, including Canada's market size, production distribution and higher custom duties.
