Various First Nations groups testified as senators continued their study of additions to reserves (ATR), which refers to land that is added to existing or new reserves.

In the first portion of the meeting, Chief Nelson Genaille and Chief Wilfred McKay Jr. of the Treaty Land Entitlement Committee of Manitoba Inc., Nathan McCorrister from the Peguis First Nation, and Gino Clement and Leona Irons, both from the National Aboriginal Lands Managers Association, discussed their concerns and made recommendations for improving land distribution.

In the second portion of the meeting, Chief Robert Louie from the First Nations Lands Advisory Board spoke about Canada’s current approach to additions, as well as ways to develop government policies concerning land distribution.
