Senators discussed the importance of having healthy trade relationships and how they are essential to an innovative agri-food sector.

Former Canadian Ambassador to the WTO John M. Weekes discussed Canada's potential trade agreements with China, Japan, Korea, and other countries. International trade strategist Peter Clark also spoke about negotiating trade agreements with numerous countries. Kathleen Sullivan from the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance talked about the need to focus on establishing a multi-lateral trade deal, FTAs, regional trade deals, and addressing market access barriers. Jacques Pomerleau of Canada Pork International addressed the need to establish trade agreements from the pork industry's perspective.
