In Committee from the Senate of Canada - Anti-terrorism – April 23, 2012

Special Committee on Anti-terrorism (April 23, 2012)

CSIS Director Richard Fadden testified as a part of the committee’s review of anti-terrorism legislation (Bill S-7) that would re-enact two controversial measures that lapsed in 2007. New offences of leaving or attempting to leave Canada to commit a terrorism offence are also being proposed.

The bill proposes to bring back recognizance with conditions and investigative hearings measures. These measures include the ability for police to arrest someone suspected of terrorism even before a crime has been committed, and for a judge to impose conditions upon a suspect’s release.
