National Defence Peter MacKay and Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk discussed Canada’s national security and defence policies. The minister responded to questions on issues such as the Canada First Defence Strategy, relations with the United States, F-35 fighter jets, and the increased suicide rate for Canadian soldiers. The General touched on topics including the transformation of the Canadian Forces, the mission in Afghanistan and cyber defence. Major-General Jonathan Vance, Rear-Admiral Ron Lloyd, Assistant Deputy Minister Jill Sinclair, and Chief Petty Officer First Class Robert Cléroux also commented on the biggest policy challenges that they face.
