Senators continued their study on the legal and political recognition of the Métis identity in Canada. Lawyers Jean Teillet and Jason T. Madden appeared before the committee. Teillet and Madden spoke about the confusion related with the term "Métis", and the resulting problems associated with census data. They also commented on people who look back at their ancestry in hopes of gaining aboriginal rights, as well as section 35 of the Constitution Act regarding these rights.
