Aboriginal Peoples – May 8, 2012

Senators continued their hearings on Bill S-8, an act respecting the safety of drinking water on First Nation lands.

Eric Morris from the Council of Yukon First Nations, Chief Candice Paul and John Paul from the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat, Roger Redman of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians Nations, and Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador representatives Madeleine Paul and Guy Latouche testified.

The witnesses discussed issues such the importance of water management, the lack of adequate funds allocated to the development of safe drinking water policies and the need to have First Nations involved in the regulatory process.
