Senior officials from the Department of Finance and the Treasury Board Secretariat briefed senators on certain measures of the budget implementation bill.

Provisions of Bill C-38 that were discussed included the exemption of pharmacists' professional services from the GST/HST, amendments relating to the green levy on fuel inefficient vehicles, eliminating mandatory financial audits by the Auditor General of 12 agencies, and proposals to strengthen and modernize the government's reporting regime.

UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
