Government officials discussed various measures of the budget implementation bill (C-38), including those pertaining to the Old Age Security Act and the Food and Drugs Act.

Representatives from Health Canada spoke about modifying food regulations and the bill’s impact on the classification of prescription drugs. Senators then heard from the International Development Research Centre about the streamlining of the centre’s workforce.

Officials from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada discussed changes to the Government Employees Compensation Act, the repeal of the Fair Wages and Hours of Labour Act, and the overhaul of the Old Age Security Act.

UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
