Banking, Trade and Commerce – May 30, 2012

Academics and representatives from the financial community briefed the committee on certain measures contained in part 4 of the budget implementation bill.

Ian Lee from Carleton University and the University of Guelph’s Jane Londerville, who appeared via videoconference, discussed the proposed new oversight rules for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Diane A. Urquhart, an independent financial analyst, appeared via videoconference to speak about changes to the Canada Labour Code affecting long-term disability policies. Frank Zinatelli from the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association also spoke about the changes to the code affecting insurance regulations.

UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
