Representatives from the University of Guelph and consumer groups discussed research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector. Richard D. Moccia, an associate vice-president of research at the university (via videoconference), provided some recommendations, such as improving partnerships between federal and provincial agencies and the academic sector. Elizabeth Nielsen, a board member of the Consumers Council of Canada, and Bruce Cran, president of the Consumers' Association of Canada, then discussed consumers' concerns with food safety and the efforts in the agri-food industry to improve the safety of food.
