Erin Weir, an economist with the United Steelworkers, discussed his concerns with the measure in the budget bill to repeal the Fair Wages and Hours of Labour Act. The legislation, which was enacted in 1985, requires contractors for federal construction projects to pay workers at least the prevailing wage as well as overtime. UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
