In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Banking, Trade and Commerce – June 22, 2012 (Part 3 of 3)
Copyright legal experts and representatives from the video game and television production industries were among the witnesses as the committee continued its hearings on Bill C-11, legislation to modernize Canada's copyright laws. Senators first heard from writer Sylvie Desrosiers and lawyers Francine Bertrand-Venne and Barry Sookman. This session focused mostly on concerns over the proposal to add education to the list of fair dealing categories. Christian Bedard (Regroupement des artsistes en arts visuels du Quebec); John Lewis (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees); Jason Kee (Entertainment Software Association of Canada); Michael McCarty (OLE); and Stephen Stohn (Epitome) presented their views and concerns for the remainder of the meeting. UPDATE: Bill C-11 received royal assent on June 29.
