Senators heard from a number of witnesses as part of their study on Bill C-290, an act to legalize single-event sports betting. NDP MP Brian Masse explained the bill in detail. Woodbine Entertainment Group representatives Jane Holmes and Mark Hayes discussed the role the bill will have on horse race betting. Jeffrey Derevensky, a McGill University professor of psychiatry, spoke about the possible effects legalized gambling may have, while Peter Cohen of the Agenda Group talked about how the bill could eliminate illegal sports betting.
