Agriculture and Forestry (October 2, 2012) The head of the union representing federal food inspectors and a former food inspector were among the witnesses who testified during this meeting that examined the government's food safety legislation (S-11). Agriculture Union (PSAC) National President Bob Kingston and former food inspector Paul Caron presented their views on the Safe Foods for Canadians Act in the first part of the meeting. The witnesses discussed their concerns with the current inspection system, in light of the massive beef recall involving Alberta's XL Foods. Mel Fruitman, vice-president of the Consumers’ Association of Canada, and Elizabeth Nielsen, Board member of the Consumers Council of Canada, testified in the second part of the meeting. UPDATE: Bill S-11 received royal assent on November 22.
