Banking, Trade and Commerce

Senators begin their consideration of Bill S-17, the Tax Conventions Implementation Act. This bill implements Canada's recently concluded tax treaties with Namibia, Serbia, Poland and Hong Kong, as well as tax agreements with Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Minister of State for Finance Ted Menzies briefs senators on the content of the legislation. Senior department officials Alain Castonguay and Ted Cook also testify.
