Senators continue their consideration of the government's controversial legislation to speed up the deportation of refugees, permanent residents and visitors for "serious criminality". Bill C-43 also gives Immigration Minister Jason Kenney a new authority to decide who can or cannot be allowed in the country based on public policy considerations.
Sharon Rosenfeldt from Victims of Violence, Raji Mangat of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association and lawyers Peter Edelmann and R. Reis Pagtakhan testify.
UPDATE: Bill C-43 received royal assent on June 19.
