Conservative MP Russ Hiebert discusses his bill (C-377) requiring public financial disclosure by labour organizations. He addresses the concerns and criticism of his controversial bill.
Senators then hear from representatives of various legal associations. Michael Mazzuca with the Canadian Bar Association, Gilles Trudeau from the Barreau du Québec and John J.L. Hunter of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada outline their opposition to the legislation. The groups raise privacy concerns, cost issues and constitutional questions.
UPDATE: On June 26, the Senate passed amendments to Bill C-377 and sent it back to the House of Commons.
