In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Banking, Trade and Commerce - June 5, 2013
Banking, Trade and Commerce Senators hear from various unions and labour associations as they continue their review of Bill C-377. The Conservative private member's bill calls for the public financial disclosure by labour organizations. The witnesses raise concerns related to jurisdictional issues, the cost to taxpayers and the invasion of privacy. Paul Taillefer from the Canadian Teachers' Federation, Denis Letourneux of the Fédération autonome de l’enseignement, Georges Dawood from the Air Line Pilots Association, International and Marc Roumy (as an individual) testify during the first panel. The committee then hears from Joseph Mancinelli with the Laborers' International Union of North America (LiUNA), Christopher M. Dassios of the Power Workers' Union, Philip Hochstein of the Independent Contractors and Business Association of British Columbia, and Paul Moist with the Canadian Union of Public Employees. UPDATE: On June 26, the Senate passed amendments to Bill C-377 and sent it back to the House of Commons.
