Banking, Trade and Commerce

Canadian Labour Congress president Ken Georgetti is among the witnesses who voice their strong opposition to Bill C-377, the controversial Conservative private member's bill that calls for the public financial disclosure by labour organizations.

Senators also hear from Ralf Hensel with the Investment Funds Institute of Canada, Stephen Ginsberg of the CAW Legal Services Plan and Ron Sanderson from the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc.

Nova Scotia Labour Minister Frank Corbett and Manitoba Deputy Labour Minister Jeff Parr testify during the second part of the meeting.

UPDATE: On June 26, the Senate passed amendments to Bill C-377 and sent it back to the House of Commons.
