In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Transport and Communications - April 8, 2014
The senators continue to examine the challenges faced by the CBC in relation to the changing environment of broadcasting and communications. Ferne Downey, national president of ACTRA, and Marit Stiles, director of policy and communications at ACTRA, see the challenges faced by the broadcaster to be an opportunity to make the CBC stronger and to grow the Canadian content. They believe any decisions regarding the future of the CBC should be guided by several principles. They suggest that the CBC must maximize investment in content, putting their resources on screen and on air, and that the CBC should move toward becoming commercial free. (April 8, 2014)
