Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz briefs the committee on the government's bill to alleviate the grain backlog for Western producers. Bill C-30 amends the Canada Transportation Act and the Canada Grain Act in order to move this year's record crop to market more quickly and efficiently. The minister answers questions about interswitching, grain transportation and the removal of the single desk system. Greg Meredith from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Lenore Duff from Transport Canada and Alain Langlois and Sara Guild from Justice Canada respond to questions from the committee members on storage issues, legislation clarifications and rail transportation.
