Senators conduct their clause-by-clause review of the Fair Elections Act, which proposes changes to Canada’s electoral law. The committee held a total of eight meetings for its pre-study of Bill C-23. Committee members heard from 27 witnesses, including Pierre Poilievre, the minister of state for democratic reform, Marc Mayrand, Canada’s chief electoral officer, and Sheila Fraser, former auditor general. (June 5, 2014) UPDATE: Bill C-23 received royal assent on June 19.
