Senators hold their second meeting on a private member’s bill (C-479) dealing with parole hearings. Conservative MP David Sweet proposes to increase the review time between the refusal or revocation of parole for violent offenders. The following witnesses discuss their concerns with the proposed legislation: Eric Purtzki, a lawyer who practices in criminal, immigration and prison law; Mary Campbell, former director-general of the corrections and criminal justice directorate at Public Safety Canada; and Rick Sauvé, peer mentor at the St. Leonard's Society of Canada. Suzanne Brisebois, director general of policy, planning and operations for the Parole Board of Canada, outlines during the second panel how the bill would affect the Board. (February 5, 2015)
