Senate Opposition Leader James Cowan presents his bill to establish the Canadian Commission on Mental Health and Justice. The Commission’s mandate would be to address crime prevention through initiatives that foster mental health and to provide for the early detection and treatment of mental illness. Bill S-208 will also establish the Mental Health and Justice Advisory Council to assist the Commission with its work.
Testifying after the senator are Jennifer Vornbrock and Howard Chodos (respectively the vice-president of knowledge and innovation and the director of mental health strategy, Mental Health Commission of Canada); Lori Spadorcia (vice-president of communications and partnerships, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health); Peter Coleridge and Mark Ferdinand (the national CEO and the national director of public policy for the Mental Health Commission of Canada).
