The committee conducts its clause-by-clause review of two private member’s bills. Bill C-247 proposes expanding the mandate of Service Canada to make it the single point of contact for the federal government in all matters relating to the death of a Canadian citizen or resident. Bill C-591 will amend the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security Act to deny survivor benefits to people convicted of murdering their spouse, common-law partner or parent. (April 22, 2015) UPDATE: Bill C-591 received royal assent on June 18.
