In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Legal and Constitutional Affairs - June 11, 2015
Gun control advocates testify as the committee continues its hearings on Bill C-42. Wendy Cukier, president of the Coalition for Gun Control, and Heidi Rathjen, spokesperson for Students and Graduates of Polytechnique for Gun Control (PolyRemembers) and a survivor of the 1989 shooting, discuss their concerns with the proposed legislation. Measures in the Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act include mandatory safety training for potential first-time owners, a streamlined licensing system and removing the requirement to carry a separate document to transport firearms to such activities as target practice or a competition at a shooting range. (June 11, 2015) UPDATE: Bill C-42 received royal assent on June 18.
